1.   Armor Set Redesigns - Part 1 08-20-2009 12:00 PM
Options    Options

From The Herald
Armor sets are an integral part of WAR. Not only are they a key functional aspect of the game, but they're also a badge of honor, a visual display of all the hard work you've put into your character. We often get feedback from you, our players, requesting more diversity between the armor sets, especially in Tier 4 where it really counts.

Your requests have not gone unheard! For the past few months, our items and art teams have been hard at work redesigning the look of every armor set in the game. We'd like give you a glimpse of what's in store by showing you before and after shots of some of the most popular Tier 4 armor sets. We have six careers to show you today, but fear not, more will come! Read on!

Read the Full Article @ The Herald and consider the following:

What do you think of the changes? Do you love them? Do you hate them? Let us know, and please be as detailed as possible!

As always please remember to keep discussions constructive, civil and on-topic, thank you!

In general, better. More differences between the different sets which is good. Some I don't care for the look of at all but that's personal preferance.

I know the art team is totally seperate and they couldn't help with other areas anyway... but this is rather moot considering other things we'd rather -hear- about.

Nice improvements. I wonder if the difference in overall graphic quality in the old/new is something to look forward to as well!

The changes are almost *too good*! The classes that already look good now looks even better (BG and SH, for example).

I can think of only two classes that really need this change - SMs and WLs. SMs from the pic do look a lot better and I hope WLs will also get more varied looks.

Are those AFTER images taken from ingame internally or concept pictures.  The new armor sets look alot better and well designed.  The problem with the armor sets are certian classes looked the same no matter what such as the Sorc / WE / DoK.   These are the classes I would love to see differences the most persoanlly as the other classes had more overall differences.

P.S.S.   The after pictures look more HD than the before pictures.  Thats why I asked if they are more of concept pictures.

I have multiple toons, two of which are in full invader.  I approve of these changes.

BUT

For the love of god, if you change Sovereign, I will find the parties resposnisble, fly to Dullas Airport, and hunt you down to pee on your car!

Edit: was referring to Sovereign Swordmaster armor..... ever since the grab bag on  armor sets which showed how awesome that armor looks, ive been drooling

Just one observation....on the engineer pics...do you have the new sentinel and dark promise pics in the wrong places? It appears so perhaps?

Love the look of the sets you've put up there, look forward to what you're goin to do with the knight. It looks like a lot of the sets are very different to eachother which is awesome, but what would really be the icing on the cake is if you could have a really good look at the set bonuses on each of these sets - WP tyrant for example, willpower on tanking gear, willpower on caster gear, etc, if you could shuffle the itemization around a bit with the new sets it'd be a winner

Everything looks pretty good. The only piece i dislike though is the new Sword Master conqueror helm, sure it does stick out, but the design in the front just looks rather...ugly. I Mean, their helms are supposed to be smooth and elegant, the piece in front of the SM conqueror helm looks like it belongs on a Knight of the Blazing Sun, not a SM.

Also... i REALLY want to see the new Shadow Warrior sets, that is my primary concern. Please show those asap.

BG: An improvement that my alt thanks you for but still a bit bland. Looks like the same wall of metal with a conehead but with slight variety on the spikes and on how much metal I have on my face.

Zealot: No big changes except for Invader which features multiple changes, but mostly it looked liked you changed the shoulder design on them and that was it.

SH: some significant changes seems for the better.

BW: Still look ridiculous though slightly less like a circus freak

Eng: Significant changes in that I can tell them apart now and is that a periscope on the invader helm.

SM: No big changes except to which design was on the chest and more variety in helms. Look better than BG because they are cleaner cut and less about jagged edges.

Common sense, so goddamn rare it should be a superpower

Yes because every other part of the team should just stop working all together until the "real" things get fixed....

The BW's Conqueror and Invader body pieces look like T2/T3 body pieces. Everything else looks great.

yeah also on the engineer changes.....

I like that you have changed in particular the body piece looks. Have you all noticed if you look at those current engineer pics they all have the same work appron on? You can tell if you look at the bottom of the chest piece. In the new pics youve made an effort to make them really look different.

I also agree with soemone else...not sure I like the look on the Conq SM head piece. I understand the progression of looks there but looks odd somehow.

Wow, those are some brilliant improvements. The textures on the armour models look soooo much better. More detail, sharper, and not so cartoony. I wish the rest of the armour throughout the game look this good.

The BW Conq. and Invader sets are absolutely dismal. Please, please, please reconsider the changes to these two sets.

I prefer the more traditional robe/mage look. The Invader robe doesn't even look like a robe. It looks like some sort of court jester outfit.

Edit: The Sent. and DP sets look fantastic. The Invader for BW reminds me of the purple ch. 22 armor look which I always hated. It's not a robe, it looks freakish on a male character. The conqueror is a step in the right direction, but close that slit in the robe. It looks ridiculous and similar to the Invader robe only longer.

Would it be possible to get rid of the Slayer, "Spikey Toilet Seat of Doom (tm)" helmets?  And if the answer is no, could you please tell me what sort of critter those things were supposed to have come off of? :smileyvery-happy:

I think overall people are looking for something a bit more elaborate and/or exotic as each tier progresses in armor.

Some of the armor, specifically the BG and SM can hardly fall under this category. While there is texture work on some, the helmets and shoulders are lacking.  They tend to just change the angle of the pointy part.

Engineer gear looks good, though I am sure many that have Darkpromise will be upset that they get the old Sentinel look again.  I am sure they sat it that look for some time, and as they finally get out of it, you give it right back to them.

Zealot looks good, assuming you can dye more than the blue parts. That fleshy color was undyable before.  Also, why regress back to the Rank 1 belt textures?  The old style with the horns was actually something I had looked forward to for a long time, as it was finally something different.  The old gloves had almost an elegance to them, as much as a creeping hunched over guy could have, and it seems lost with the new glove graphics.  They look tougher, healthier thats for sure, just not sure thats a zealot.  And Darkpromise doesn't look very ravenlike, as the others do.

BW, overall, looks good, except for the highwater look of Invader.  Really?  That would looke good on female, but male dunno.  Unless thats a new fashion trend I missed in the last few years. Lol

Squiggy looks good.  I am not sure there are any SH sets that don't.  Great job on these.

Two requests.  When you redo maurader can you tone down the big ass thing you have suspended in their helmets, and maybe make a double shoulder?  I realise it mutates, but there were a few options leveling mine up and it looked really good.  Also, on the white lion, the lion head is nice on the shoulders, but can you add a little variation to the dress and helm?  So many High Elves look the same, and have little dying options.  Give me one set I can dye black and orange...please.  Toss in a random Blindfold set, or something other than a helmet that does one..two..no THREE points!!  SW is in the same boat, they ever get different shoulders from Rank 1?  At least they finally starting getting a little different helmet, but damn.  Very boring outfits.

Please please fix the Shadow Warrior armour.  This new armour is a major improvement but tell me why SHADOW Warriors are mostly silver armour?  Also please don't change the Iron Breaker.  From what i know people love the little walking fortress.  If your going to change anything on them change the helmets

I like the changes on those classes but I would really love to see the changens on the White Lion.  The White Lion class has the same shoulders from anahhilator to warlord; they look all the same except sentinal and also the helm's look all the same except the sentinal .

I would love to see the changes in that particular class.... plzz put some thought into it and put out some pic's.

love the changes. big improvements over the present for most. ony one criticism you still cannot visually tell someone is better geared by looking at them (without being an expert in armor). so although the sets look nicer, it's still not intuitive.
