Almost perfectly timed with my sub running out December 8th. To quote one of the people in that linked thread: "No surprises."

I'll go down with the sinking ship if they'd fix the goddamn waffleing CTDs in RvR lakes.

Jesus, how did all of you doom and gloomies escape the Heaven's Gate Cult mass suicide? Un-sub please, and then quit posting on the forums. For me, I'll be playing with the 20,000 (arbitrary number pulled from my ass), new players that zerg around at all hours in T1. If 1/4 of them sub, the game's population is going to be fine for some time to come. Geez. /rant off.
If you're a pacifist and not enslaved or dead...Thank a soldier.
The amount of nerd emitting from your post is astounding.

I've tried to find a suitable replacement for WAR and haven't found one. So here I remain because it's still fun and it's unique in some ways. My best hope is that the ftp Tier 1 empire/chaos is just the beginning of a move towards a new, more successful business model for Mythic. Maybe Biowaagh can learn from Turbine's success with DDO.
When I quit DDO, the level cap had just been raised to 14, and the game was 10x worse than war is. I loved the character creation process, and I wish more games had a creation system similar to shadowbane or ddo. Other than that, the game was bad.

Oh I completely agree with you about DDO's quality. WAR is far superior. But by adding free to play and microtransactions as an option, in addition to the regular subscription model, Turbine has caused a big increase in the number of players. Turbine even added a new server last week. (My original CoH/WoW guild has even dived in to give it a second look. That's remarkable because I'm convinced they'll be stuck on WoW 'till the next ice age sets in.) I'd love to see similar good news for WAR someday soon.

It's far from pure speculation. Mythic was specifically named, and the layoffs were almost 17% of the entire company. More than 60% of the layoffs were developers. So, while it's pointless to predict that the game will close, don't put your head in the sand either. This has a major impact and at a minimum reduces the upside. Games that don't get attention and support grow slowly at best. It'll be around for a long while. There isn't going to be much competition in the causal pvp mmo market anytime soon.

I really wish I knew where people get these number. The fact that people actually know percents..... It just wow... Btw how many people does mythic employee and how many were fired... Also how many people are in the dev department.... Since people know the percents it should be easy to give the answer since you have to know the values to be to give percent answers.

The information all comes from EA's press releases and quarterly reports. The layoffs are reported in Canada and California where the layoffs are a news event. It's not that hard.

This interview popped up on Massively today:
Massively Article
He couldnt talk about the layoffs and much of it was the usual PR bs but it seems WAR is still moving forward.
As far as the layoffs are concerned, several people have pointed out on various forums that Mythic has 3 internal teams staffed with personnel (for UO, DAoC, and WAR respectively). Mythic might have taken a 40% personnel hit but I am thinking that the WAR team probably walked out on top of the situation after the guillotine stopped falling. This jives with how patch 1.3.3 seems to be well into development and that they are setting up for a Korean WAR release with other enhancements.
This doesn't sound like 'maintenance mode' but I also doubt we will see an expansion or any huge patch of content anytime soon. Smaller updates, fixes, and balances seems like the forseeable future of WAR. Which is just fine for now if they can get it right.
